We all know Italy is world-renowned for its pizza and pasta… But how about its CBD?
Though hemp once thrived in Italy, it has shifted into a legal grey area in recent years. What changed? And why? Read on to find out all the details.
Is CBD legal in Italy?
As mentioned above, Italy has tightened its CBD laws recently. One main reason for this is the country’s Supreme Court of Cassation in May 2019 which prohibited the sale of cannabis sativa derivatives. This includes leaves, flowers, resin, and oil.
That said, there’s one exception to the rule. CBD that contains no more than 0.2% THC is still legal. Food and beverages containing CBD are not included in this exception however.
Medicinal CBD and medicinal marijuana prescribed by doctors are both legal. Possession and cultivation of small amounts of cannabis have also been decriminalized.
Can I travel (fly or drive) with CBD into Italy?
Technically yes, if your CBD is within the THC limits you should be okay to take it.
That said, unless you need it medicinically it’s probably not worth the hassle and the possibility of getting held up in customs.
Can I ship CBD in Italy?
Yes! At this time, you can ship CBD into this country from overseas.
